Pep Guardiola could soon have another Julian Alvarez on his hands at Manchester City in Claudio Echeverri.
There have been plenty of rumours flying around involving the 17-year-old and the treble winners.
So, why might Claudio Echeverri be the new Julian Alvarez? Let’s take a look…
Manchester City could sign Julian Alvarez 2.0 in Claudio Echeverri
Well – according to 90min – Manchester City are confident about signing the River Plate No.19 in January as they hold a strong relationship with the Argentinian giants.
A separate story from TV Play also suggested that Manchester City are ready to trigger the teenager’s £22m release clause.
River Plate is – of course – where Alvarez learned his trade, and the pair are both Argentinian, although we aren’t lazy enough to leave the comparisons at that.
Both the Manchester City No.19 and Echeverri can play pretty much anywhere across the frontline, whether that be in a No.10 role, on either flank, or even as a No.9 leading the line.

Alvarez and the Argentina Under-17 international are also both diminutive, speedy forwards who excel when it comes to dribbling, but also possess deceptively effective upper body strength, much like Carlos Tevez used to.
There are clear parallels between Alvarez’s start to life in professional football and the infancy of Echeverri’s promising career – to say the least.
Manchester City could sign more Argentinian wonderkids
Echeverri is not the only talent Txiki Begiristain is focusing on in South America – specifically River Plate.
The aforementioned story by 90min also claimed that Manchester City are optimistic about signing Ian Subiabre and Agustin Ruberto from River Plate as well as Echeverri.

Therefore, Guardiola may not only have one second coming of Alvarez on his hands soon, but a third and fourth as well amid a time where Manchester City are intensifying scouting missions in Argentina.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea and Real Madrid are also monitoring the South American trio.
