Kevin De Bruyne’s Manchester City career is very close to its end.

After spending the last 10 years in Manchester, De Bruyne will leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the month after the City board decided not to offer the 33-year-old a new deal.

De Bruyne has been in action for Belgium ever since the 2024/25 Premier League campaign concluded, and after being part of a draw against North Macedonia last Friday, the superstar scored an 88th-minute winner on Monday night to help his nation earn a big three points against Wales.

After seeing what the Man City legend had done for his nation, fans of the Manchester club reacted to De Bruyne’s goal by saying the same thing about the 33-year-old.

Man City fans label Kevin De Bruyne the greatest midfielder of all time

At 33, De Bruyne is still more than capable of stepping up for his team and putting in top performances, which is one reason why many Man City fans wanted their club to keep the midfielder for next season.

De Bruyne received big praise from Alan Shearer after his recent display against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, and the Belgian showed once again he could be the deciding factor against Wales on Monday night, which left Man City fans calling him the greatest midfielder of all time.

Writing on X (formerly known as Twitter), one Man City fan responded to the Belgian’s goal by saying: “The best midfielder of all time. A genius at work… so beautiful to watch.”

Another City supporter simply wrote: “The greatest of all time.”

While a third fan said about De Bruyne: “STILL A CITY PLAYER TECHNICALLY. THE GOATTTTT.”

The next chapter in the 33-year-old’s career looks set to take place in Naples, as De Bruyne is expected to become a Napoli player once the international break has concluded.

Man City fans will be pleased about this move for the Belgian, as their club legend avoids playing for an English rival, while it is also a destination where they can easily watch the midfielder next season.

Kevin De Bruyne’s performance for Belgium vs Wales in numbers

De Bruyne started for Belgium in their World Cup qualifier against Wales on Monday night and featured for 89 minutes, before being taken off after his goal for Alexis Saelemaekers.

The midfielder showed why he is still one of the best players in the world as the 33-year-old scored a goal, had 67 touches, made 30 accurate passes with a 77% pass accuracy, had 10 touches in the opposition, made four passes into the final third, and completed three successful dribbles.

Last season highlighted that De Bruyne’s body was not capable of competing in the Premier League on a constant basis anymore; however, that does not mean that the 33-year-old is done playing at a high level, as Monday night showed.

A move to Serie A could be the perfect next step for the City legend’s career, and every fan of the club will be interested to see how it plays out.
