Manchester City fans are so jealous after hearing news coming from Tottenham, ‘we might regret this’

Manchester City fans have enjoyed a superb summer on the transfer front, signing a host of top players as they look to return to the top of English and European football.

However, Manchester City aren’t the finished product just yet, as their Club World Cup campaign showed, and there’s certainly scope for more reinforcements as well as outgoings.

Now, a player who Pep Guardiola’s side were linked with for much of the summer is now set to join Tottenham Hotspur, and City fans aren’t happy.

Manchester City fans fear they might regret missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White

On Thursday, Tottenham swooped for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White in a move that developed incredibly quickly.

Reports of Spurs merely being interested in Gibbs-White surfaced around 3pm and, by 6pm, Fabrizio Romano declared “here we go” on his move to N17.

City fans believe Gibbs-White would have been a superb acquisition at just £60million, his release clause, and feel they may regret not bringing him to the Etihad Stadium.

“Somewhat disappointing ngl,” one fan wrote on X.

“He’s a quality player and had a secret release clause of just £60m in a market where £55m gets you Madueke. Might regret this one in the coming years.”

Another said: “Gibbs-White for £60m is very good business – I wanted him at City and was only put off by the £100million we were quoted.

“Be interesting to see why we chose not to trigger the RC!”

The comments kept coming, with one fan saying: “He had a £60million release clause and City didn’t activate it???? Baffling.”

Another wrote: “Mad City not all over Gibbs-White for £60million especially for home grown and Grealish and McAtee possibly going.”

Another said: “Can’t believe City not going for Gibbs-White at £60million – he is just what we need to replace Gundo and Kovacic in my opinion!”

Why Tottenham only paid £60million for Morgan Gibbs-White

Reports from earlier this year suggested that City were quoted anything from £70million to £100million for Gibbs-White.

Therefore, hearing that Spurs got him for £60million had some City fans wondering why that was the case.

Ben Jacobs took to X to report that, when City had approached Forest, Gibbs-White’s release clause was not active.

That clause is active now and, as such, Tottenham have moved quickly to trigger it and take a huge step towards bringing Gibbs-White to North London.

Perhaps City felt they were already well-stocked in midfield, especially considering their transfer activity before the Club World Cup.

Hopefully this won’t come back to haunt City.
