If Manchester City weren’t sure about signing Robin Gosens, then today’s performance at Euro 2020 should convince them.
Gosens was the star man for Germany today as they beat Portugal 4-2 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, producing a superb attacking display.
The Atalanta star did in fact win the ‘Star of the Match’ award, and City were surely paying close attention.
Gosens’ devastating Germany performance
Utilised as a left-sided wing back by Joachim Loew, just as he is at Atalanta, Gosens was a thorn in Portugal’s side from the very beginning.
He had an early goal ruled out by VAR, but took over when Germany went 1-0 down.
He crossed the ball in for a Ruben Dias own goal, grabbed another assist for Kai Havertz’s goal and then got himself on the scoresheet with a fine header.
Gosens was then withdrawn as Marcel Halstenberg came on, with the 26-year-old again proving that he is one of the top wing backs in Europe right now.
Manchester City’s interest in Gosens
Tuttomercatoweb have reported that City made a move for Gosens in January, with Pep Guardiola believed to be a big fan of the German.
City do need a left back, and with Gosens able to play there, City fans are clamouring for him to be signed in a big-money move this summer.
City supporters have taken to Twitter to suggest that Gosens is a ‘baller’ and needs to be signed this summer to solve the left back problems City have endured for years.
