Frank Lampard has said that Pep Guardiola must have tapped into something within the Manchester City players for them to have won the treble.
In an interview with Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO, the Chelsea legend emphasised the importance of man-management in football.
As a result, Frank Lampard has made the assumption that especially when Manchester City went on to become treble-winners, Pep Guardiola must have sparked something within the players as humans, which led to them achieving the impossible.
Frank Lampard says Pep Guardiola man-management may have been key behind Manchester City treble win
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca did recently claim that what separates the Catalan boss from the rest is his desire to learn every day.
Ultimately, it is this very unrelenting hunger for success that has propelled this Sky Blues side into one of the greatest teams of all time.
Frank Lampard believes that it is igniting the fire within players, as must have been the case at Manchester City that may have been a key factor behind their treble success.

“The greatest of managers, in my opinion and I’ve played under, as you say, a lot and I’m trying to be one is that they give you something that you can believe in, that you strive for and that you can all buy into”, he opened.
Frank Lampard elaborated on how motivating players is key to being a top coach, as must have been true in the case of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City on course to their treble triumph.
“And sometimes, it’s a messy process. You watch Man City lift that treble now and you’ve lifted the Champions League, there will be so many things we don’t know behind-the-scenes. Players unhappy, Pep [Guardiola] had to do this…all these things that come together and give you that amazing moment.”
Perhaps it was Guardiola’s public bashing of his own players for their declining hunger for silverware that led them to produce the greatest seasons of their lives as a collective, proving Lampard right.
