Manchester City now told they can sign Chelsea target for £69m in January

Manchester City have now been told how much it will cost to sign Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP in January.

It was A Bola in Portugal who shared the update.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City and Ousmane Diomande? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City told Ousmane Diomande price

Well, the Portuguese news outlet claim that Manchester City are keen to sign the Ivory Coast international, along with Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, those hoping to buy Diomande in January have now been told to trigger his €80m (£69m) release clause or walk away.

A Bola believe nobody is willing to pay that amount for the 20-year-old as things stand.

Furthermore, the story states that Sporting CP are actually keen to offer Diomande a new contract to recognise his growing importance at the Estádio José Alvalade.

If the Ivorian were to agree to a contract extension, the chances are that Sporting CP would either remove his release clause entirely, or increase it to the €100m (£86m) mark, which A Bola state is the current highest release clause of any player at the club, belonging to Viktor Gyokeres.

Diomande – who Manchester City have monitored since January 2023, at least – has shone for the Portuguese giants so far this season, making 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals while also providing one assist.

Ousmane Diomande interest suggests Pep Guardiola is unhappy with his backline at Manchester City

Manchester City have now conceded eight goals in their last three Premier League outings.

Between the 1-1 draw against Liverpool and Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Tottenham, there was also a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, albeit a clash which saw Manchester City go 2-0 down.

Ten goals conceded in four games is unusual for Pep Guardiola to witness, so the Spaniard could now be having second thoughts about the quality of his backline, something the interest in Diomande reinforces.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation – in truth, a summer move seems more likely for the Sporting CP No.26 as the Portuguese giants stand firm on his £69m release clause this winter.
