Yan Couto is currently resisting a new contract at Manchester City amid interest from Real Madrid.

That is according to Marca.

So, what is the latest on Yan Couto and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

Yan Couto resists new contract

Well, the Brazil international has made quite the name for himself on loan at Girona this season.

Couto has impressively provided eight goal involvements from right-back as Girona surprisingly sit top of La Liga, which has caught the eye of Real Madrid.

Now – according to Marca – the South American is said to be resisting a new contract at Manchester City, with his current terms expiring in the summer of 2025.

The Spanish news outlet add that Couto is currently valued at €10m (£9m) in the market, although Manchester City are hoping to make more from his sale if a new contract cannot be agreed.

It comes after the Brazilian himself described Real Madrid as the club of his dreams in a recent social media interview with Girona.

Manchester City must outline clear pathway for Yan Couto

As things stand, it seems Manchester City are in real danger of losing Couto as he resists a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The 21-year-old may feel he has no chance of playing ahead of Kyle Walker until the England international’s contract expires in 2025.

That is – coincidentally – the same date of Couto’s contract expiring.

Therefore, Manchester City may effectively have to promise the Brazilian that he will immediately step into Walker’s position in the starting XI in 2025, if Txiki Begiristain is to get him to sign a new deal.

Real Madrid are already in a better position to convince Couto when it comes to playing time, as work has started to replace Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Couto currently resists a new contract at Manchester City.
