Manchester City could be set for a busy few days in the transfer market, both in terms of incoming and outgoings.

It has been a quiet summer for the club so far.

Only Savinho has arrived, but the Brazilian already looks to be an exciting addition.

A number of young players have departed, and Julian Alvarez has been the only big sale of a first-teamer from last season. He joined Atletico Madrid recently for £82 million.

Now, City are in talks to offload another Argentine, with midfielder Maximo Perrone emerging as a target for Italian club Como 1907.

Perrone featured for City during their US tour, having returned to the club after spending last season on loan at Las Palmas.

Perrone made 30 appearances for the club across all competitions.

He was one of a number of young players to catch the eye for City during the pre-season tour of the US.

But he wasn’t quite able to shine bright enough to encourage Pep Guardiola to keep him around. In the end, the manager was more taken by Nico O’Reilly, who has been promoted to the first-team squad, along with James McAtee.

Perrone is now set to leave City on a temporary basis. And it looks like he won’t be returning to Las Palmas, which is something he himself suggested earlier this summer.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on X last night: “Como to send official bid to Manchester City for Máximo Perrone as new midfielder.

“Negotiations start over loan with buy option clause. Manchester City as usual would require buy back and sell-on clause to keep future control on Perrone.”

Perrone joined City in January 2023 from Velez Sarsfeld for about £8 million.

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio also reports that Perrone is set to join Como.

The right call

News of Perrone potentially heading out on loan again should come as no real surprise.

The youngster did well in pre-season, but following the promotion of O’Reilly to the first-team, his fate has essentially been sealed.

He would simply not get minutes this season if he stuck around. Especially if Ilkay Gundogan returns as is now being widely reported.

So it makes sense for him to go out on loan, and a move to Como could be good for him as he would be linking up with Cesc Fabregas, who was obviously a top midfielder in his day. Fabregas became their head coach earlier this summer.

City are also again showing here that they are really good when it comes to negotiating sales. Buy options, buy-backs and sell-on clauses are now commonplace for City and that can only be a positive.
