Manchester City are still keen to sign Matija Popovic on a free transfer despite agent issues involving AC Milan.
That is according to Christian Falk – Head of Football for BILD.
So, what is the latest on Manchester City and Matija Popovic? Let’s take a look…
Manchester City still want Matija Popovic
Well, Txiki Begiristain appeared to have missed out on the Serbian wonderkid as AC Milan closed in on a deal.
However – according to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato – AC Milan were left unhappy with how Popovic’s representatives behaved as an agreement neared, which saw the deal collapse.
The reliable journalist wrote: “Breaking – The negotiation between Milan and Popovic’s agents is not unblocked. The club is very lukewarm on the entourage’s requests. Matija wants to wear the Rossoneri but it’s not enough.”
Now – according to Falk – AC Milan are not at the table anymore, although Bayern Munich and Napoli have entered the conversation along with Manchester City.

Popovic – who has been compared to Michu – is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, having scored 20 goals in 24 Kadetska Liga appearances in the 2022/23 campaign before rejecting a new contract at Partizan.
Manchester City have time
Crucially, Manchester City do not need to wrap up a deal for Popovic before transfer deadline day.
The 18-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Partizan expired, meaning that he is eligible to join a new club outside of the transfer window.

Of course, time is somewhat of the essence as Napoli and Bayern Munich attempt to beat Manchester City to the Serbia U17 international’s signature.
There is also the risk of allowing AC Milan back into the picture as well if the Italian giants eventually smooth things over with the teenager’s representatives.
However, if Manchester City can reach a verbal agreement with Popovic, then Begiristain can take his time in finalising the smaller details, with no deadline restricting the Citizens.
