Manchester City turned down three offers for ‘fantastic’ player in the summer

Manchester City reportedly knocked back three loan offers for Oscar Bobb in the summer transfer window, including one from Italian giants Lazio.

That is the claim from respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, who also published some quotes from the player on X, formerly Twitter.

Bobb was promoted to the City first-team at the start of the current season by Pep Guardiola, with the youngster having impressed for a while in the club’s EDS.

He was a part of City’s pre-season tour of Asia, and has made all but two of City’s matchday squads this season, making seven appearances across all competitions.

Bobb might have been turning out for a different club this season, but City were seemingly adamant he was going nowhere…

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Bobb was a wanted man during the summer window. He said: “Man City rejected 3 loan bids in August for Oscar Bobb, including one from Lazio.”

Despite having not yet made his debut for City’s first-team, the Norway international was in high demand, with clubs hoping to secure a loan move for the talented winger.

Three offers apparently came in for Bobb according to Romano, with one of those coming from Italian giants Lazio, who are competing in this season’s Champions League.

But City knocked back all three of these offers, seemingly because they felt the youngster was ready to play a part for the first-team following his exploits in the EDS.

So far, Bobb – branded ‘fantastic’ on the ball by Martin Odegaard recently – has had a handful of opportunities to show what he can do and has looked pretty good across his cameo appearances.

His highlight probably came when City played against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup. Guardiola’s side lost that game, but Bobb came out of the defeat with a lot of credit having arguably been City’s best player on the night, with the manager calling him ‘more than brilliant’.

City clearly believe in Bobb

This is an interesting claim about one of the brightest prospects at the Etihad Stadium right now.

Bobb had a lot of interest in him despite having not yet played for the City first-team, which just goes to show that clubs are really paying close attention to the club’s EDS.

It might have been quite easy to sanction a loan move for Bobb, but seemingly there is a belief there that he can make a genuine impact under Pep in the first-team. We have already seen him be given several chances to impress.

One wonders if he will perhaps follow the same path as Phil Foden and Rico Lewis, two other academy products who have never been loaned out.

Bobb has said that if it was up to him he would not go out on loan because he loves it at City, and it would be amazing to see him thrive at the Etihad without heading elsewhere first.
