Phil Foden has two years left on his contract at Manchester City.

In June, Foden revealed he hadn’t been offered a new contract.

However, this season, the 25-year-old is proving why he deserved a brand-new deal — as he caught the eye in big games against Manchester United and Napoli in particular.

While against Arsenal as well, the Stockport-born midfielder put a shift in, often defending inside the box and helping Manchester City kept the hosts at bay during their eventual 1-1 draw.

Foden admitted he hoped to prove people wrong this campaign and the early signs this term suggest that he is well on course to doing so.

Manchester City ready to extend Phil Foden’s contract

GRV Media’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that Manchester City are prepared to extend Phil Foden’s contract.

Pep Guardiola’s side view the Englishman as an important figure, not only due to his undeniable quality but also considering that the six-time Premier League winner lives and breathes the club.

Graeme Bailey said: “Phil Foden is a huge part of Manchester City’s future, but it is not just sentiment, they firmly believe in him. The old adage, ‘form is temporary, class is permanent’ rings true with Phil Foden.”

“He brings his talent to the side but he is so much more than that – he is important to the club because he lives and breathes the club.”

“They don’t see a new deal as a huge issue.”

Pep Guardiola predicted Foden could become a one-club man

In 2019, Pep Guardiola claimed Foden is priceless and even if Manchester City were offered £432 million, they would not sell him.

Six years later, the decorated attacker has become one of City’s most important players and it is impossible to imagine them being able to lift silverware in his absence.

As a result, it is key for Manchester City to extend Foden’s contract, which expires in 2027.

In January, Pep Guardiola claimed his number 47 could become a one-club man.

Guardiola said via The Independent: “He can be a one-club man and finish his career here and play many, many years. At his age and with the amount of goals, the amount of games, the amount of assists, his work ethic.”

Manchester City fans will be hoping Foden signs a new contract and ends up spending the entirety of his career at the Etihad Stadium
