Man City contracts, expiry dates and players who could leave for nothing in 2025

Manchester City have a sensational squad but which players are they at risk of losing for nothing next summer?

Pep Guardiola has been blessed with a world class collection of players for every position and Manchester City’s expert squad management means they’re rarely at risk of losing any of them for free.

However, two first-teamers are out of contract in 2025 while a host of deals are coming to an end in 2026.

Here are all of City’s first-team contracts ordered from those with the least time remaining to the most.

Ilkay Gundogan – 2025

Ilkay Gundogan made a heroic return to City in the summer of 2024, signing an initial one-year contract until the summer of 2025.

However, there is an option for an additional year that City can activate or will be automatically triggered if the German plays a certain number of games.

Kevin De Bruyne – 2025

Kevin De Bruyne has entered the final year of his contract and the brilliant Belgian’s future at the Etiahd has come under question this summer with strong links with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Expiry date: June 30, 2025.

Scott Carson – 2025

Scott Carson extended his stay with City for another season by signing another one-year extension on his deal.

Expiry date: June 30, 2025.

Stefan Ortega – 2026

After his Premier League-clinching save at Tottenham, City did all they could to keep hold of Stefan Ortega and convinced him to extend his contract to 2026.

Expiry date: June 30, 2026

Kyle Walker – 2026

City captain Kyle Walker came close to leaving the club in 2023 but instead remained in Manchester and signed a new three-year deal until 2026.

John Stones – 2026

John Stones last signed a new contract at City back in 2021 and is tied to the club until 2026.

Ederson – 2026

Ederson’s future at City has looked unsteady as the goalkeeper has also been sought after by Saudi Arabian clubs but he is contracted until 2026.

Bernardo Silva – 2026

It’s not a summer transfer window if Bernardo Silva isn’t linked with a move away but he signed a new three-year contract with the club last year until 2026.

James McAtee – 2026

Young prospect James McAtee is hoping to make an impact in Guardiola’s side this season but is running out of time to earn a new contract.

Mateo Kovacic – 2027

Mateo Kovacic signed a four-year deal until 2027 when he joined the club from Chelsea last summer.

Nathan Ake – 2027

Defender Nathan Ake was rewarded for his fantastic performances with a new contract in 2022 and remains a key part of the side.

Jack Grealish – 2027

Manuel Akanji – 2027

City signed Manuel Akanji for a steal from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 on a five-year deal.

Rodri – 2027

Luckily, the Blues’ most important player won’t be going anywhere any time soon as Rodri’s contract does not expire until 2027.

Phil Foden – 2027

Phil Foden has been with City since he was a four years old and is going to be with the club for years to come.

Though he looks unlikely to play for Guardiola again, Kalvin Phillips is contracted until 2028 so City may struggle to sell him.
