Manchester City have now got their 2024/25 Premier League campaign underway.
Pep Guardiola’s side got their season off to a strong start by beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic secured the victory for City, who are not in the race to land a potential fifth consecutive Premier League trophy.
Now though, a pundit has shared his reaction to one piece of news that has come out of the Etihad Stadium.

Martin Keown reacts to Ilkay Gundogan’s return to Man City
After the news of Ilkay Gundogan’s return to City broke, Martin Keown had this to say about it on talkSPORT (23/8 11:08).
He said: “That is making it even more difficult, isn’t it, to overcome Man City. What a wonderful player!
“What was it, 52 games, for Barcelona, played exceptionally well for Germany in the summer. He is a wonderful talent.
“The manager knows him inside out. He will be playing at the top of their midfield and weighing in with the goals to lighten the goal.”
Gundogan will be a key player for City again
Spending seven years at the club, the 33-year-old joined Barcelona as a free agent in the 2023 summer transfer window.
Despite signing a three-year deal with the Spanish club, Gundogan left after just one year to make a return to Manchester.
Following his return to the club, Txiki Begiristain said that Gundogan will significantly strengthen City’s squad.
In his first spell at the Manchester club, the German found the back of the net 60 times and delivered 38 assists in 304 appearances across all competitions.
Having scored some key goals for City in the Premier League, it’s easy to see why Keown thinks him being back in City’s ranks has made them even stronger.
