‘Maybe they will try’: Manchester City could make stunning January move for £165m superstar

Manchester City have one genuine footballing superstar in Erling Haaland – but one journalist believes the club could actually land another in the near future.

Haaland is an absolute force in football for all he has achieved so far.

Since coming to City, he has broken record after record after record.

He has a strong chance of winning the Ballon d’Or very soon, which would elevate his profile even further.

He is a world-class player, who people talk about in a similar way to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi vs Ronaldo has been a long-running debate in football, and some have wondered if we could ever seen a battle like that again.

For a lot of people, Haaland vs Kylian Mbappe will be the next big battle in football.

But one journalist believes it’s not out of the question they could actually become teammates at the Etihad…

Journalist says he can see Manchester City swooping for Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe was the subject of intense speculation over the summer.

At one point, it really looked as though he would head to Real Madrid, a move many have expected him to make for a long time.

He ultimately stayed at Paris Saint-Germain, who signed him for £165 million back in 2018.

Luke Edwards of the Telegraph has suggested that City could actually make a move for the French superstar.

He said on Football Gossip Daily: “I think Mbappe has kind of had his heart set on this Real Madrid move. However, that’s why I think there might be a little bit of action in January.

“Premier League clubs have money. If Manchester City decided they wanted to make a move for Mbappe, if they got any sort of encouragement from Mbappe’s camp, I could see Manchester City going for him.

“I think the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, maybe they will try and come in for him in January. I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility for sure. I think all signposts kind of point to him ending up at Real Madrid though. I don’t think so (stay at PSG), I think that ship has sailed.”

Mbappe’s contract at the Parc des Princes expires next summer. But the player has the option to extend by a further year.

Mbappe to Manchester City won’t happen

It’s very, very unlikely that City will make a move for Mbappe in January. Or at any point for that matter.

Mbappe is obviously an incredible player.

But he will surely go to Real Madrid where he will be the main man.

It’s difficult to see him coming to City alongside a fellow superstar like Haaland.

City actually did get linked with Mbappe during the summer and the speculation was put to Pep Guardiola, who said (via TNT): “We will not sign Kylian Mbappe, he’s not joining Man City – all of you know where he wants to go.”

Certainly though if this did actually happen, it would be one of the most eye-catching transfers ever.
