Micah Richards has said that Kevin De Bruyne could go down as the greatest midfielder to have ever played in the Premier League.
On BBC Sounds’ Match of the Day: Top 10 show, the popular pundit had his say on De Bruyne’s potential legacy in English football one day.
Even Glenn Hoddle claimed that the midfield maestro is still the “best player” at Manchester City as he remains an absolute freak of nature.
Micah Richards says Kevin De Bruyne could go down as the Premier League’s greatest midfielder
Signed for £54 million (Guardian) from VFL Wolfsburg in 2015, the Belgian international looked like a superstar from his debut season in England.
But there is no doubt that the decorated creator saw his game reach another level when Pep Guardiola joined City in 2016.
Micah Richards has said that if Kevin De Bruyne continues to perform at a world-class level going forward, he could end up as the Premier League’s best-ever midfielder.

“If he has another couple of seasons in the Premier League, he’ll be the best ever, in my opinion. He just will oust Steven Gerrard”, Richards said on BBC Sounds’ Match of the Day: Top 10.
“So good, isn’t he?”
“He puts them in early as well, doesn’t he? He can make you run straightaway because you know…[he will put the ball into the box].”
What more does Kevin De Bruyne have to do?
While Micah Richards mentions Kevin De Bruyne having to continue to deliver for longer, eight years of elite service should be considered sufficient.
That too whilst having consistently been one of, if not the best player in the Premier League and up there amongst the top dogs in the world football.
In addition, Kevin De Bruyne has completed club football at Manchester City whilst also having won the treble and been the protagonist of one the best sides in the modern era.
To expect De Bruyne to continue to maintain or even outdo his current level for a few more seasons to claim such a title is a stretch as he could already be regarded as the league’s greatest-ever midfielder.
