Pep Guardiola has said that Jeremy Doku could reach the ‘next level’ if he learns how to be as impactful as a right-winger.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming contest against Young Boys (via Manchester Evening News), the Catalan tactician was quizzed about whether the £55.5 million (Sky Sports) man can also play on the opposite flank.
Pep Guardiola not only believes that Jeremy Doku can but he also reckons that if he can operate on similar levels on both flanks, the sky is the limit for him.
Pep Guardiola says Jeremy Doku could reach the ‘next level’ if he can play on the right-wing
Branded as ‘fantastic’ by Nathan Ake, the 21-year-old has largely played on the left flank for City and thrived.
However, when played on the opposite wing against the likes of Fulham and Young Boys, Doku’s threat has halved.
But Pep Guardiola has said that Jeremy Doku would unlock a new level to his game if he learns how to become a top right-winger as well.

“He can do it. Versus Young Boys, he crossed and Erling [Haaland] arrived at the second post and missed it. We did the same with Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane. It’s just so far, Jeremy on the left as been wow. He is so young 21, for his skills and ability using both sides, I don’t see many using both sides”, he said.
“He can add a next level. Maybe next season he can play inside. I would love in the next years that he can make that step to become a better player.”
Jeremy Doku would become unstoppable if he does so
Pep Guardiola is spot on as especially similarly to Raheem Sterling, Jeremy Doku would become a force to be reckoned with if he can come up with the goods on both flanks.
At Rennes and as he showcased for his first assist of the day to Bernardo Silva, he is well capable of doing damage from the right-wing.
Considering how much of a 1v1 threat Doku is, the change in the angles from the other flank could unlock a new level of threat in his skillset.
