Manchester City star Phil Foden is currently having the best season of his career – and former goalkeeper Nicky Weaver has shared what he loves the most about the Etihad gem.
Foden has been in fine fettle in the last few months in particular, when he has played in a more central role.
While Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland were both out injured, the 23-year-old really stepped up to the plate as a number 10 with Julian Alvarez ahead of him.
Since De Bruyne and Haaland have return, Foden has continued to have a big impact on the team and Pep Guardiola has kept starting him, although we’ve seen him move back out wide a few more times recently.
Foden’s haul of 15 goals and 10 assists so far is very impressive.
But Weaver spoke about another part of Foden’s game that he absolutely loves…

Weaver made an appearance on City’s Matchday Live show on YouTube at the weekend for the club’s game against Chelsea.
Foden was a topic of conversation ahead of the 1-1 draw with the Blues, and Weaver sang the star’s praises.
City’s former ‘keeper has loved what he’s seen from the Stockport-born talent in an attacking sense, but really feels his work-rate is a very underrated part of his game.
He said: “I think this is his best season so far. He took up a more central role when De Bruyne was out injured and he’s certainly taken his chance. He’s added a lot of goals to his game. He’s so important for us now.
“The way he manipulates the ball, his movement of the ball, the way he brings others into play.
“But what impresses me most about Phil Foden is if he loses the ball, it’s his instant work rate to win the ball back. Super talented player who works really hard. He is one of those real special talents who doesn’t come around very often.”
Weaver’s comments come after Foden was actually revealed to be City’s hardest-working player this season in terms of distance covered.
Foden’s work-rate sets him apart
Foden is obviously a seriously talented technical player, but he also has the work-rate to boot and that sets him apart from many other players.
He is a fantastic example to young players everywhere.
He has so much ability but the youngster is not, and never has been, afraid to do the dirty work. Danny Murphy praised his defensive discipline last week and it is certainly one of the more underrated parts of his game.
Without any doubt, he is one of the finest attacking midfield players in the game right now.
