‘Not got any credit’… Pundit says one Manchester City player deserves way more praise after Newcastle win

Danny Murphy believes Manchester City youngster Oscar Bobb did not get his due credit after his cameo against Newcastle United.

The pundit feels the widespread praise Kevin De Bruyne received, especially for his glorious assist for the Norwegian’s winner meant the latter’s skilful strike went under the radar while speaking to FIVE’s official YouTube channel.

Of course, those within the Manchester City circle seem to have full faith in Oscar Bobb, with Pep Guardiola revealing that Txiki Begiristain informed him that he was the best player amongst the club’s U-23s.

Bernardo Silva also praised the 20-year-old, hailing him as a “big talent” and describing his strike as an “amazing goal.”

Pundit Robbie Mustoe went as far as to say that the teenager reminds him of a player in the mould of Lionel Messi.

Now, Danny Murphy has said that in his opinion, Oscar Bobb should have got more credit for his delightful goal for Manchester City against Newcastle.

“Do you know, before we talk about that because we all know he’s [Kevin De Bruyne] just so lovely, isn’t he to watch but before we just eulogise about him, it’s overlooked, the finish of that pass from Oscar Bobb”, he said on FIVE’s official YouTube channel.

“What a touch and then the little drag!”

“At that stage of the game!”

Danny Murphy reflected on how he can relate to Manchester City wonderkid Oscar Bobb after his winner against Newcastle, as he underwent the same treatment after scoring a last-gasp strike against Manchester United.

“I’ll tell a quick story actually. When I got the second winner at Old Trafford for Liverpool. Listen, it’s relevant. No [it wasn’t in the top corner]. The commentary back then, it was always [Martin] Tyler and Andy Gray. Stevie G’s [Steven Gerrard] played this wonder-ball, last five minutes, 0-0 and a little dink over [Fabian] Barthez. Let me finish. The commentary, all it talked about was the pass from Stevie G, right and it was a hell of a finish.”

Murphy continued, “Every time I’ve seen it since, it doesn’t get mentioned. It’s like Oscar Bobb. Not the same goal but the same thing because everyone was going, ‘De Bruyne, what a pass! Oh my god, De Bruyne!’ but he’s not got any credit for his touch and his finish.”

“And I think the commentary was something like, ‘The pass was so good, it told him how to finish it!’ Martin, Andy, that’s not how it works! It was in a white kit, yeah, there’s the one.”

“But Oscar Bobb, this is a super young talent, by the way. Maybe one of the reasons they would think [Cole] Palmer [was sellable], you know.”

Blessing in disguise for Oscar Bobb

Danny Murphy makes a fair point about Oscar Bobb, who perhaps deserved more praise after his tremendous goal against Newcastle to clinch a crucial victory for Manchester City.

However, it is often the case that when young players step up to the plate for top teams, excessive pressure is put on them to become the next big thing.

While certain prospects live up to the billing, several others whittle under the pressure and fail to fulfil their much-discussed potential.

As a result, for Oscar Bobb to not be on the receiving end of such attention from the public and instead being allowed to focus on his game is a blessing in disguise for him, in our view and ideal for his development.
