“Not injured”… Journalist shares why £180,000-a-week Manchester City player missed training today

Ederson was nowhere to be seen in training today as Manchester City prepared for the UEFA Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade.

The Brazil international – however – was not injured.

So, why did Ederson miss Manchester City training on Tuesday? Let’s take a look…

Why Ederson missed Manchester City training

Well, the £180,000-a-week man has not been punished by Pep Guardiola or anything like that.

Ederson is simply feeling a bit under the weather, with Joe Bray of the Manchester Evening News confirming that the South American is ill.

Therefore, we doubt the Manchester City No.31 – who Rio Ferdinand prefers ahead of Alisson Becker – will play any part in Serbia on Wednesday.

Having said that, Guardiola opted to start Stefan Ortega ahead of Ederson anyway in Manchester City’s last UEFA Champions League outing, a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig, as the treble winners had already qualified for the Round of 16.

In that respect, the Spaniard may have been planning to hand the German another start regardless, so the Brazilian’s expected absence does not come as a major blow.

Manchester City will just hope that Ederson can recover in time for Saturday’s clash against Crystal Palace – a game which holds far more significance as the Citizens sit fourth in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola should give Scott Carson a game with Ederson feeling unwell

In our view, Guardiola should allow Scott Carson to play against Red Star Belgrade with qualification for the Round of 16 already secured – as well as top spot in Group G.

The 52-year-old previously gave the 38-year-old a run out in the UEFA Champions League back in March 2022 against Sporting CP in the Round of 16, as the game was already pretty much won.

Therefore – with another dead rubber like Wednesday’s clash possibly not happening again this season – it would be nice of Guardiola to let Carson play.
