‘Not received any bid’: Guardiola says UCL giants have still not made a bid for £60m City star

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Barcelona are yet to submit a bid to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City in the summer.

This revelation was relayed by Fabrizio Romano about the Portuguese full-back, whose £59.6 million (Eurosport) loan fee was not paid by Bayern Munich after all.

However, Pep Guardiola has now claimed that Barcelona are yet to have launched a bid to sign Joao Cancelo, who seems to be unwanted at Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola says Barcelona are yet to make a bid for Joao Cancelo transfer

It has been previously reported that Xavi’s side consider the 29-year-old as their primary target, with their intention being to sign him on loan before making him a permanent addition in 2024.

However, the ideal scenario for the Sky Blues would logically be that the former Juventus sensation just leaves the club on a permanent basis.

Now, Pep Guardiola, who was pictured meeting Barcelona president Joan Laporta has now addressed that his former club are yet to submit a bid to sign Joao Cancelo.

“We’ve not received any bid from Barça for Joao Cancelo, no proposals from them.”

“I think they didn’t inform Xavi in the correct way on that story”, Guardiola added, when the Blaugrana boss claimed that City chose not to send him on loan to them.

Sticky situation for Manchester City

While Barcelona-linked defender Joao Cancelo still remains one of, if not the best full-back in world football, what Pep Guardiola said about his transfer status indicates that a sale will be a challenge to get over the line.

The Spanish giants’ financial problems have meant that they are restricted in the summer market, while Bayern Munich have decided not to sign Cancelo anyway.

Unless the treble winners agree to sell a truly world-class player at a much more reduced fee, it seems unlikely that several clubs will queue up for his signature, especially due to his much-reported attitude problems and how things have gone downhill for him.
