Gab Marcotti has said that Manchester City megastar Erling Haaland is better than Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

Speaking on ESPN FC, the renowned journalist and pundit picked who comes out on top between the pair of stalwarts.

However, according to Gab Marcotti, Erling Haaland pips Kylian Mbappe in the constant debate between which player is superior.

Gab Marcotti says Erling Haaland has surpassed Kylian Mbappe

It is hard to argue with Wayne Rooney, who branded the Norwegian striker as the ‘best footballer in the world’ and the most deserving candidate to win the Ballon d’Or.

Registering a staggering 52 goals in his debut season at the Etihad Stadium whilst having broken the Premier League goal record twice and won the treble, all one can do is bow down to Haaland’s greatness.

Gab Marcotti has said that as things stand, Erling Haaland is most certainly better than Kylian Mbappe.

“I’m going to lean Haaland, just for the work he does off the ball, the importance of him as a team player.”

When quizzed about which player he would pick in his team, Marcotti replied, “It depends [on] who’s the coach, no seriously!”

On current form, Erling Haaland is the clear winner

Gab Marcotti makes a fair point as judging by last season especially, it would be bizarre to rank any player above the Leeds-born hitman, let alone Kylian Mbappe, who arguably endured the most disappointing campaign of his career.

From an all-round perspective, sure, the World Cup winner is undoubtedly a more complete footballer than the Manchester City goalscorer.

But then again, football should be a meritocracy and based on the season Haaland has enjoyed, it would be fair to claim that Mbappe is not quite at the same level as him.

With the Sky Blues frontman expected to dominate under Pep Guardiola for at least two more years, he could further increase the potential gap between himself and the Frenchman.
