Darren Bent believes Kalvin Phillips would be an “unbelievable” signing on loan for West Ham United.
The pundit claimed that the potential addition of the Manchester City outcast alongside Emile Smith-Rowe would make a place in the top six a minimum requirement for David Moyes’ side while speaking to talkSPORT (via Twitter).
It was claimed on Friday that the Hammers were in talks to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan in the ongoing January transfer window.
Darren Bent says Kalvin Phillips would be an “unbelievable” loan signing for West Ham
On Monday, it was revealed by journalist Alan Nixon that it is likely that the Englishman departs the Etihad Stadium later this window on loan.
As questions around Kalvin Phillips‘ future at Manchester City continue to increase, Darren Bent believes that if West Ham manage to secure his services on loan in January, the club would have pulled off a tremendous piece of business.

“Even if David Moyes brings in them two players, Kalvin Phillips and Emile Smith-Rowe, they will be two unbelievable signings for their squad, especially pushing Europe as well and pushing that top six where they are”, he said on talkSPORT.
“I mean, all of a sudden, if you’re a West Ham fan, you’re excited now anyway because of the players you’ve got. You bring in them two as well, you’re almost like, ‘Oh my goodness! What can we do with this squad?’
“Definitely top six. Minimum top six.”
“I think they should be aiming for top six anyway because I think they’re a good side but if they add them two in, top six then becomes the minimum.”
It would aid Kalvin Phillips as well to sign for David Moyes’ side
In our view, Darren Bent raises a fair point about Kalvin Phillips, who should jump at the chance of leaving Manchester City on loan to sign for West Ham.
With Lucas Paqueta currently injured and Tomas Soucek perhaps being an upgradeable presence in midfield for the Irons, one can foresee the treble-winner getting regular minutes at the London Stadium.
The same cannot be said for Kalvin Phillips’ prospects on the pitch in a Manchester City shirt.
As a result, Pep Guardiola’s men would perhaps also be hoping that West Ham manage to seal the loan deal to sign the out-of-favour defensive midfielder.
A change of scenery coupled with a less competitive environment should suit Phillips, at least in theory.
