It has been reported that Barcelona intend to make one final attempt to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City this summer.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after it was claimed on Sunday that Xavi was actively pushing to bring in the Portuguese full-back to the Spotify Camp Nou.

Now, it seems Barcelona are still desperate to ensure that Joao Cancelo plays for them next season.

Fabrizio Romano: Barcelona set to make one last attempt at Joao Cancelo transfer

Despite the 29-year-old looking slick in moments during pre-season for the Sky Blues, it has been revealed that Pep Guardiola still has no plans to reintegrate him into the squad.

After all, it was widely reported last season that the pair had a falling-out, which led to both parties deciding that enough was enough, as the versatile defender headed to Bayern Munich on loan.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has made the revelation that Barcelona will indeed make ‘one more try’ to sign Manchester City virtuoso Joao Cancelo.

Further details suggests that the Catalan giants aim to use a part of the fee they bank from Ousmane Dembele’s potential move to PSG to fund a transfer for the decorated technician.

However, if a deal is still not deemed doable, the club will direct their focus towards signing Ivan Fresneda, for whom the negotations are ‘advanced’ in any case.

It is high-time that Joao Cancelo departs the Etihad Stadium

While it would be egregious to claim that Joao Cancelo is no longer a world-class player, it would be best for all parties involved if his move to Barcelona was finalized.

Putting aside the much-discussed rift between Cancelo and Guardiola, it is also key to emphasize that full-backs that possess his profile do not fit into City’s newfound policy of playing ball-playing, lockdown defenders in his role.

As a result, the former Juventus man’s inclusion in this Sky Blues side would not be the best fit and for his sake as well, a move to Xavi’s side could virtually guarantee a starting role in the upcoming campaign.
