Phil Foden has said “no one” can produce what Kevin De Bruyne can and has done on the pitch for years.

The Englishman expressed his delight at De Bruyne’s return from injury in a post-match interview with beIN SPORTS (07/01/2024) after Manchester City’s 5-0 demolition job of Huddersfield Town on Sunday.

After the contest, Pep Guardiola also hailed the 32-year-old as “exceptional” and admitted that the club were “incredibly delighted” that he was finally fit to get some minutes under his belt.

Andy Morrison also described the Belgian maestro as an “incredible footballer” and praised his attacking approach off the bench against Huddersfield.

The £400,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man was paired in the middle of the park alongside Foden in the FA Cup Third Round tie upon his return to proceedings.

“Oh yeah, everyone was buzzing to have him back. If we’re going to win anything, we need him at it because he’s, for me, one of the best players in the world. No one can do what he does. Yeah, you can see the stadium roaring when he came on and it just shows how big and important this was, so delighted for Kev [Kevin De Bruyne] to come back and yeah, hopefully, he stays injury-free because we need him.”

Manchester City must smartly manage the minutes Kevin De Bruyne gets until the end of the season

Phil Foden raised a particularly relevant point by emphasising how crucial it is for Manchester City that Kevin De Bruyne stays fit until the end of the season.

Much like after his return from injury against Burnley, De Bruyne could well pick up yet another knock and have his entire campaign derailed, similar to what was the case during the 2018/2019 season.

As a result, Manchester City’s medical staff must ensure that the £54 million (Guardian) man’s minutes are managed carefully.

Even beyond this season, it is key for City to ensure that De Bruyne can perform at the highest level.

If not, the Sky Blues could well have a season to forget as their talismanic midfielder’s absence for another stretch of fixtures across all competitions could prove costly.
