‘Outstanding player’ has now told Pep Guardiola he wants to sign for Manchester City

It seemed relatively quiet on the transfer front for Manchester City until recently.

However, the draw of playing for Pep Guardiola and this City side exists amongst players across world football — especially as they chase a fifth consecutive Premier League title this season.

Despite just signing Savinho this summer, Roy Keane still backs Manchester City to win the Premier League — as well as other pundits like Jamie Carragher and Jill Scott agreeing with his answer soon after.

By beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, a reminder from City’s showing was not to start doubting their title credentials due to their lack of big-spending in the transfer window.

However, Ilkay Gundogan is being strongly linked with a return to the Sky Blues — a signing that could make the English juggernaut an even better side.

On Monday, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Gundogan is set to leave Barcelona; a turn of events that was unexpected as he was arguably the Catalan giants’ best player last season and had signed a contract until 2026 when he joined the club last year.

What Ilkay Gundogan did to inform Man City about desire to return

Michael Ballack described Gundogan as an “outstanding player” — emphasising how important he was for City in his final campaign where he captained the club to win the treble.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Monday that Pep Guardiola also wishes for Gundogan to return to Manchester City now.

Romano has also claimed that there are contacts taking place between the 33-year-old’s representatives and City now.

Now, journalist Adria Albets has revealed that Gundogan “personally called” Pep Guardiola a few days to ago to inform him of his desire to return to the Etihad Stadium.

The midfield maestro also “promised” his former club that Barcelona would let him leave the Spotify Camp Nou on a free transfer.

Since the German international’s decision to do so, the potential move has “accelerated.”

If Gundogan returns to Man City, he will get a hero’s welcome

If Manchester City are able to seal the deal to sign Gundogan, he is guaranteed to get a hero’s welcome at the Etihad Stadium.

The veteran did not get the chance to say goodbye to the City supporters as shortly after winning the treble, his move to Barcelona was finalised.

But it seems like Gundogan’s story as a Manchester City legend may still have a few chapters left.

It’s safe to say that a majority of the Sky Blues fanbase will be hoping that the Barcelona technician rekindles his love affair with their beloved club once again.
