Paul Merson has waxed lyrical about Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez.

As the well-known pundit predicted Pep Guardiola’s men to beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 for Sportskeeda, he had his say on the Argentine international.

It’s safe to say that Paul Merson is a huge admirer of Manchester City goalscorer Julian Alvarez.

Paul Merson says he is a ‘big fan’ of ‘special’ Julian Alvarez

Branded as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola, the World Cup winner has been absolutely unplayable this season, playing behind the striker.

The 23-year-old’s latest masterclass against Red Star Belgrade was a testament to his brilliance as he bagged a brace whilst running the show from start to finish.

Paul Merson laid emphasis on Julian Alvarez and his magnificence when previewing Manchester City’s upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest.

“Erling Haaland has been City’s leading man since arriving at the club last season, but I’m a big fan of Julian Alvarez, he’s a special player”, he said.

“He can play as a No.10 or up front and is blessed with the ability to score goals and create, as we saw in the Champions League in mid-week. He’s playing pretty much every week this season, long may it continue!”

Julian Alvarez has silenced the questions about his long-term future at Manchester City

While Paul Merson, like many others recognised how incredible a talent Julian Alvarez is, there were question marks over whether he would stay at Manchester City in the long run.

After all, as brilliant as the former River Plate frontman is, any striker would find it impossible to displace Erling Haaland in the side.

However, Pep Guardiola’s use of him behind the Norwegian superstar and its success is proof that his starting place will not be a question mark years from now.

Even if Kevin De Bruyne’s return from injury means he loses his place, Julian Alvarez will have a spot reserved for him in the team with the former not getting any younger.
