Rico Lewis stood up for Erling Haaland after Manchester City beat Young Boys 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

In an interview with TNT Sports, the Englishman was quizzed about whether the £51 million (Sky Sports) man, who was quite wasteful on the night despite his brilliant brace looked ‘anxious’ in front of goal.

However, Manchester City wonderkid Rico Lewis rubbished these suggestions about Erling Haaland after picking up the Man of the Match award against Young Boys.

Branded as an ‘amazing guy’ by Ilkay Gundogan, the Norwegian striker was guilty of missing a number of chances that typify the fact that he is far from his best currently.

However, Haaland responded in lionhearted fashion, dispatching a penalty and curling the ball into the top corner with his weak foot to bag a top-drawer brace.

After Manchester City defeated Young Boys, Rico Lewis was quick to deny any suggestions that Erling Haaland was nervous in front of goal.

“He’s just like any other striker in a sense, you know? People will get on to him more than others because of the year he’s had last year but he’s come away with two goals and people will call him anxious. He scored two goals today. It’s a credit to him and what he’s done last year.”

Erling Haaland has enough credit in the bank not to be questioned like this

Rico Lewis is right about his Manchester City teammate, who proved his class once again up against Young Boys.

Last season, the 23-year-old scored a staggering total of 52 goals in 53 games whilst having won the treble.

This campaign as well, Haaland is the Premier League’s top scorer whilst having registered 11 goals in all competitions.

While questioning Erling Haaland’s form is justified, to be making such statements is quite far-fetched.
