Manchester City have shown how capable they are when it comes to recruiting players from other Premier League sides.
For example, during Pep Guardiola’s tenure, City have brought the likes of John Stones, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic among others to the Etihad Stadium from numerous top-flight teams.
Another player the Citizens have landed a deal for from a fellow Premier League side in recent memory is Matheus Nunes.
Specifically, during the previous summer transfer window, the Blues spent £53m to sign the midfielder from Wolves.
Even though Nunes has only been at the Manchester club for one season, we feel that Guardiola’s side could get their hands on a player who would be an upgrade on the Portuguese international this summer.

Man City could find an upgrade on Matheus Nunes by signing Bruno Guimaraes
Back in April, it was reported by The Telegraph that City are interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer.
Since joining the Tyneside club back in January 2022 in a deal worth a total fee of £40m (via Sky Sports), the Brazilian has made 107 appearances in all competitions.
Across those games, the 26-year-old, who Alan Shearer has hailed for his “magnificent” performances previously (via BBC Sport), has scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists along the way.
Nunes vs Guimaraes
In terms of being an upgrade on Nunes, who has shared how much he has enjoyed working with Guardiola, this can be shown by comparing the City man’s first domestic season at Wolves (including two league appearances for Sporting CP prior to joining the Old Gold) before his move to the Etihad and Guimaraes’ debut campaign with Newcastle.
Specifically, with the pair starting the same number of games (32), Guimaraes showed how superior he is from an attacking and defensive point of view.
For example, on the attacking side, the Brazil international racked up more goals (4 vs 2), assists (5 vs 2) key passes (42 vs 30), shot-creating actions (110 vs 66) and goal-creating actions (12 vs 8) than Nunes.
Then from the defensive point of view, Guimaraes also ended his first full Premier League campaign with a higher combined total of tackles and interceptions (114 vs 88) than the current City midfielder.
Taking all of that into account, we feel that the Newcastle star would be a very smart signing for City, although it may not be such good news for Nunes regarding his efforts to become more prominent in the team.
