While discussing the fact that Joao Cancelo got booed upon his return to the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola opened the door to him being a first-team player at Manchester City once again next season.

The 28-year-old, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich was recently linked with another temporary switch to Barcelona, as it has seemed like an exit is likely.

But Pep Guardiola has suggested that perhaps Joao Cancelo could return to Manchester City next season, while touching on how the home fans reacted after seeing him in the Germans’ strip in their 3-0 win.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola hints at Joao Cancelo return

During his time at the club, there is no questioning that Cancelo was simply an incredible performer, widely viewed as the best full-back in the world.

However, the versatile defender reportedly had a falling-out with the Catalan boss, according to the Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan, which made a return seem impossible.

In his latest press conference ahead of his side’s clash against Leicester City, Pep Guardiola seemingly refuted such claims, hinting that Joao Cancelo could play his football for Manchester City next campaign.

“I’m sure they appreciate him a lot. Joao has always been so appreciated here. It happened because maybe he was an opponent in that situation. I’m sure they appreciate him a lot”, he said on the Beanyman Sports YouTube channel.

“Joao has been, and maybe will be, but has been such an important player for us. We cannot forget the Premier League’s in previous seasons, how important a player he was and the quality is undeniable.”

Perhaps a reason why Pep Guardiola has not completely closed the chapter when it comes to Joao Cancelo and Manchester City is as Bayern reportedly have no intention to pay his £62 million release clause.

As a result, it is easier said than done to just cut ties with the player.
