Manchester City were handed a serious injury blow earlier this season.
During their 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, Rodri was forced off the pitch with a suspected knee issue.
It was then revealed that the midfielder had damaged his ACL, resulting in Rodri being ruled out for the season.
More positively, Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d’Or after playing key roles in City’s journey to their fourth consecutive Premier League trophy and Spain winning the latest European Championship.
Earlier this week, it was announced that the Spaniard will be presented with his Ballon d’Or prior to kick off in City’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Ahead of this game, Pep Guardiola has shared a fresh update about the midfielder’s recovery and some behind-the-scenes details on the next steps in his rehabilitation.

Pep Guardiola shares fresh update on Rodri’s injury recovery
On the subject of Rodri, his recovery and his post-match appearance before Saturday’s game, Guardiola said this about the midfielder in his latest press conference.
He said: “I think in January he will come back here to make a recovery. But I think, from what I hear from the doctors, it’s going really, really well, and his mood is good and it’s nice to see him.
“He’s unique in our club, one player who has played here has got this amazing, amazing award and shares it with our people. It’s so nice, I’m looking forward to seeing him.”
How have City fared without Rodri?
Since Rodri suffered his knee injury, City have played 11 matches in total across the Premier League, Carabao Cup and Champions League.
Out of those games, the Blues have won six, drawn one and lost four, keeping a clean sheet on just three occasions.

After seeing City lose 4-1 to Sporting CP – after which Bernardo Silva said City were in a “dark place” – Stephen Warnock highlighted how City are missing Rodri, saying this on the matter.
He said: “I just feel that Rodri’s going to be a huge loss for them. I think you can deal with it for four or five games knowing that he’s going to come back eventually within the changing room, but I think there’s a feeling amongst the team and amongst the fans at the moment, which is how do we balance this midfield better?
“You lose a player like that, especially in away games, against Sporting Lisbon, you need that powerhouse, you need that player who’s going to take the ball under pressure but also sense danger.
“We saw there from [Mateo] Kovacic, he doesn’t see danger. Great with the ball, but not out of possession.”
Now that Guardiola has said that the doctors looking after Rodri’s recovery have told him his rehabilitation is going very well, this should delight a lot of City supporters who are hoping to see the midfielder back fully fit and available as soon as possible.
