Pep Guardiola has added a player to his Manchester City squad this summer who has been tipped to dominate in the Premier League.

Heading into the summer transfer window, Guardiola wanted four to five new faces to arrive at the Manchester club for the 2025/26 campaign, and that goal was achieved, as City made seven new additions.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was the latest on deadline day, as the Italian goalkeeper was brought to England to replace Ederson, who has left the Manchester club after eight years to start a new chapter in Turkey with Fenerbahce.

Out of the seven new players at Man City, former Premier League striker Charlie Austin thinks one star in particular will dominate in the English top flight after watching him for years.

Charlie Austin thinks Gianluigi Donnarumma is a great signing for Man City

Many fans and pundits do not understand why Man City have signed Donnarumma, as the Italian goalkeeper is not good with the ball at his feet and is weak at dealing with crosses, which is essential in the Premier League.

Austin does not feel this way about the goalkeeper, as the former Southampton star thinks the 26-year-old is going to be a great signing for Man City.

“I think it’s a great signing for Man City. He’s only 26, he feels like he’s been around for years,” the pundit said on Sky Sports News on deadline day.

“The question is, how does James Trafford feel? Does that prevent him, but Donnarumma comes to the Premier League, he fills the goal, he dominates the box.”

Last season was an exceptional one for Donnarumma, as the role he played in PSG winning the Champions League is still fresh on everyone’s mind.

This has helped people overlook the flaws he has shown throughout his career so far, and only time will tell if they will be costly to City as the Italian will need to get up to speed fast when it comes to what Guardiola will demand from him.

Hugo Viana is delighted to have Gianluigi Donnarumma at Man City

One man who is over the moon about the signing of Donnarumma is Man City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, who was a key figure in bringing the 26-year-old to the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking about the Italian following the confirmation of his signing, Viana believes City have just acquired one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“Gianluigi’s pedigree, quality and record speaks for itself, and we are all absolutely thrilled he has joined us here at City,” Viana told mancity.com.

“He has accumulated a wealth of top-level experience and knows what is required to achieve success on a sustained level.

“From a remarkably young age, he has played at the very top level. That is unusual for a goalkeeper and it means he arrives here as one of the best in the world in his position. There is no doubt that Gianluigi will bring further quality and depth to our top-class goalkeeping department.”
