Manchester City have move ‘in the works’ to sign £100m player this summer

New faces will arrive at Manchester City this summer.

Having won four Premier League titles in a row last season City rested on their laurels and failed to refresh their squad last summer, with the effects of this mistake increased when Rodri suffered a season-ending injury against Arsenal at the start of the campaign.

Man City addressed this in January by signing four players in Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, with the Egyptian star in particular having a huge impact on Pep Guardiola’s side in recent weeks.

City are unbeaten in their last eight games, which is a great sign heading into the 2025/26 campaign, and the excitement for next season will only increase as the Manchester club are making progress on a £100m signing.

Man City making progress on Morgan Gibbs-White signing

Man City have been strongly linked to Morgan Gibbs-White since last month as the Manchester club begin preparations to replace the departing Kevin De Bruyne at the end of the season.

Hugo Viana has been a fan of the Nottingham Forest star for years and speculation over a transfer increased at the weekend as Guardiola was spotted talking with Gibbs-White.

According to The Athletic, progress has already been made at Man City towards bringing in some of their first-choice targets and further meetings have been held this week to finalise their plans.

A move for Gibbs-White is in the works, while there is also keen interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, who is also a target for Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Nottingham Forest are set to demand £100m to part ways with the midfielder this summer and it remains to be seen if City are willing to match this or if they can find a creative way around it.

Full extent of Man City’s transfer plans this summer

This summer is set to be a busy one at Man City and The Athletic also revealed the full extent of what the Manchester club will try to do ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Liverpool expects Man City to bounce back next season and that could be possible as Guardiola plans to see four or five new faces at the Etihad Stadium.

Having brought in two centre-backs, a holding midfielder and a versatile forward in January, City are looking to strengthen in other areas, with a goalkeeper, full-back and creative midfielders among the targets.

This would mark the start of a new cycle for Guardiola at Man City as all these arrivals would also result in several departures, with some of City’s older stars such as Ederson and Bernardo Silva likely to head for the exit door.
