Manchester City booked their place in the 2025 FA Cup final over the weekend.

City were 2-0 victors in their semi-final contest with Nottingham Forest on Sunday at Wembley with Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol getting on the score sheet on either side of the break.

Man City were comfortable against Forest for the most part, however, Morgan Gibbs-White could have made things trickier for the Manchester club having had several good opportunities, hitting the woodwork on two occasions.

Several Man City fans were impressed by Gibbs-White as they got a glimpse of what could be arriving at their club during the summer.

Pep Guardiola meeting with Morgan Gibbs-White

With Kevin De Bruyne set to leave Man City at the end of the season, the Manchester club have already been on the lookout for his replacement, with Guardiola set to see two new midfield stars arrive at the Etihad Stadium.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is said to be City’s top target, however, Man City are also keen to bring Gibbs-White to Manchester during the summer as Hugo Viana is said to be a fan of the Nottingham Forest star.

After Man City’s win over Forest on Sunday, Guardiola was spotted having a brief meeting with the England midfielder on the pitch as both had a brief chat, reports the Manchester Evening News.

“Kevin De Bruyne’s departure has already been announced though, and the space he frees up on the wage book allows for bringing two players in to replace him,” Man City journalist Simon Bajkowski wrote.

“Florian Wirtz is wanted from Bayer Leverkusen, while Morgan Gibbs-White earned a quick chat from Guardiola after an FA Cup semi-final in which he went close on more than one occasion to making City pay for slack play.”

Gibbs-White will be one of several new faces to arrive at City this season as Guardiola has an idea of the positions he wants to address ahead of next season.

Man City to address several issues this summer

Man City rested on their laurels last summer as the Manchester club failed to significantly improve Guardiola’s squad and having added to it during the January window, City are expected to go big again ahead of next season.

According to Manchester Evening News, if Rico Lewis is to be considered in midfield next season after his performance against Nottingham Forest, then City need to sign a new right-back to replace Kyle Walker. That will be on top of at least one midfield signing, a left-back, and probably at least one goalkeeper.

The future of Ederson remains in doubt at Man City, while Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso is seen as City’s top target for the left-back role.

Guardiola would not have been happy with having to hand the Premier League over to Liverpool at the weekend, with the Spanish coach expected to have his squad ready to reclaim the title in 2026.
