Man City’s goalkeeper situation has now become clearer after new Ederson decision

Man City fans have seen some top goalkeepers in a sky blue shirt through the years.

Names such as David Seaman, Peter Schmeichel, Shay Given and Joe Hart have all represented the Manchester club, but there has arguably been none better than Ederson.

The Brazilian has been crucial to the success Pep Guardiola has had at Man City over the last ten years after the legendary coach quickly identified the former Benfica star as the player he wanted between the sticks very early as due to his ability with the ball at his feet.

Having spent the last eight years at City, Ederson is set to make a decision on his future this summer and a new update suggests that the goalkeeper has already made it.

Al-Ittihad make move for Ederson

Al-Nassr showed strong interest in Ederson last summer with the Saudi Pro League club said to have offered the Brazilian a two-year contract worth £50m.

The 31-year-old was interested in the move back then and that does not seem to have changed having stayed at Man City for another season.

According to Santi Aouna, Al-Ittihad have approached Ederson over a summer transfer and it is being reported that the City goalkeeper is keen on a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Talks are ongoing between the player’s agent and Ramon Planes, the sporting director of Al-Ittihad, as all parties work towards getting a deal done.

Ederson may have already played his last Man City match as the 31-year-old is out injured for several weeks having picked up a fitness issue during a recent win against Crystal Palace.

It will be very hard to replace the Brazilian at the Etihad Stadium due to his unique skillset, however, it seems that Guardiola already has one in mind.

Man City hope to sign goalkeeper for £34m

It was reported this week that FC Porto’s Diogo Costa has given an initial green light to a Man City move as the Portuguese goalkeeper is keen on joining the Premier League club as Ederson’s replacement.

Santi Aouna has now provided more information on the 25-year-old’s situation, reporting that his agent Jorge Mendes is now trying to find an agreement to pay under the player’s release clause as Man City hope to sign the player for around £34m (€40m).

Costa has been with Porto for the entirety of his career having come through the Portuguese club’s academy and seems keen to take the next step in his career this summer.

The 25-year-old has huge boots to fill at Man City, but Hugo Viana seems to think the player is ready, hence why he has made the Portuguese star his top target for the role.
