Pep Guardiola will regret asking Man City to sign player who they could now sell at a staggering loss

It seems like Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side could be set for a much-needed squad overhaul in the summer with up to three new players likely to make a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Tijjani Reijnders could sign for Manchester City and provide competition to the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic and Nico Gonzalez in central midfield.

Rayan Cherki is closing in on joining Manchester City and the Sky Blues could snap the Frenchman up as well if they agree to pay Lyon’s valuation of £33.7 million.

While Rayan Ait-Nouri has said yes to Manchester City as they hope to sign him.

But City’s reason for rebuilding their squad in the first place is due to mistakes made in past transfer windows.

Pep Guardiola will rue Jack Grealish signing with Man City ready to sell him for £43m

Jack Grealish is an addition who could be considered as a disappointing one after analysing his time at Manchester City after three full seasons, as he could potentially leave in the summer.

Grealish is open to joining Tottenham Hotspur and City are open to selling the Englishman for around £38 to £43 million. Considering Manchester City signed Grealish for £100 million in 2021, it seems like they are open to taking a loss of about £57 to £62 million on him by letting the winger leave.

Pep Guardiola must regret the former Aston Villa star’s addition, considering the Catalan admitted to having asked to sign him after justifying his decision to exclude the 29-year-old from his squad to face Fulham via Sky Sports: “Who said I’m not happy with him? I said, in my words, I’m not happy with him? Yeah, he didn’t play the last games, he was on the bench and Rico [Lewis], for me, one of the favourite players I have, he was not selected, [James] McAtee against Aston Villa was exceptional and other games he played against Wolves and today, was not selected too.”

“Why don’t you ask me about McAtee for example, it’s not personal, I don’t have any problems with the players. If you say we are selecting players who are in trouble or not in trouble, it’s not about that. I have 24 players, I have to get rid of six players last game, today, five because [Mateo] Kovacic was sent off last game [against Nottingham Forest], otherwise I had six players at home.”

Guardiola added: “I treat Jack, like I think of [Abdukodir] Khusanov, Vitor [Reis], McAtee, all the players. But it’s not anything personal with Jack, absolutely anything. I’m the person who fought [for Grealish] to come here [to Manchester City], fought for him to stay this season and the previous season. The one! The one who said, I want Jack with me, yes or yes. So, now he didn’t come, so didn’t come, so not for something else, what happens in the future, it’s the job of Hugo [Viana] and Txiki [Begiristain] and the agents.”

While Pep Guardiola lauded Grealish for how he fared during Manchester City’s treble-winning season, even the player himself would admit that he is yet to have hit such heights since.

In the past two seasons, the decorated wideman has started a mere 17 Premier League games and while injuries have impacted his progress, the England international has also seemed surplus to requirements.

Man City eyeing £101m Jack Grealish replacement

However, the City boss will now be focused on the future, which could involve the three-time Premier League winner leaving in the summer.

Manchester City have scouted Bradley Barcola, who could cost around £84 to £101 million.

With Grealish being on AC Milan’s radar as well, Pep Guardiola will be hoping that Manchester City replace him in the summer.
