Manchester City made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League yesterday, beating Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side put in a good performance in their first home game of the season.

City had a quick turnaround from the midweek Super Cup game with Sevilla.

There was real potential for City to drop points in this game.

But City were much better than on Wednesday, and Phil Foden was the star of the show against Newcastle.

The England international was at the heart of everything for City, and it was he who assisted Julian Alvarez’s winning goal.

But there was one other player who really shone yesterday, who really impressed Foden himself, and also Jack Grealish…

Kovacic checked in with City fans following his first appearance at the Etihad as a City player.

Kovacic was superb yesterday, and looks like he’s been playing in this team for years.

He used the ball smartly, and also carried it with bravery at times.

Quite simply, he will turn out to be a brilliant signing for £30 million all-in.

And Kovacic has already impressed his City teammates, with Foden and Grealish both commenting on Kovacic’s post last night.

Both of them wrote ‘What a player’, with Grealish particularly excited by the midfielder’s display.

Ruben Dias also left a few clapping emojis.

Mateo Kovacic has taken to City’s style like a duck to water

Kovacic has now made a handful of appearances for City – and what a signing he already looks.

Kovacic was the best technician at Chelsea and this was always going to give him a reasonable chance of fitting in quite easily at City.

But he’s probably started even better than most people thought he would.

To think City have landed this player for just £30 million all-in is amazing.

Chelsea fans are going to end up very uncomfortable indeed seeing Kovacic at City.
