Phil Foden has been Manchester City’s poster-boy for years.

Born and bred in Stockport, the midfielder joined Manchester City’s academy at just four years old and has gone on to become one of the most decorated players in their history.

Being a lifelong City fan and coming through the ranks, Phil Foden idolised several Sky Blues legends.

Foden admitted to studying David Silva’s game even after becoming a first-team player.

Kevin De Bruyne has garnered praise from Foden as well, a player he must have grown up watching.

Phil Foden names Cristiano Ronaldo as one of his favourite players

However, being a top player now, the Manchester City attacker must be analysing how several greats of the game operated at world-class standards for years.

De Bruyne tipped Foden for greatness but for him to make history for years to come, it is important for the silky technician to do his due diligence.

It seems like the 25-year-old already does, naming Cristiano Ronaldo as one of his five favourite players of all time while speaking to Sports Direct alongside David Silva, De Bruyne, Messi and Sergio Aguero.

Phil Foden’s record vs Cristiano Ronaldo

It is a testament to the Al-Nassr forward’s longevity that he played in the Premier League at the same time as the treble-winner after returning to Manchester United in 2021.

The Portuguese legend’s time at United came to a sour end a year later as both parties decided to mutually part ways, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract being terminated.

However, Foden had the chance to line up against one of his idols in Ronaldo in March 2022.

Manchester City won 2-0 against Manchester United, dominating proceedings as an own goal from Eric Bailly and a strike from Bernardo Silva meant the visitors triumphed at Old Trafford.

The fact that Foden has a flawless record playing against Ronaldo after facing him just once must fill him with pride.
