Phil Foden says player Man City let go in 2023 could actually be incredible at Euro 2024

Phil Foden has claimed that one player who Manchester City sold in the summer of 2023 could have a big say with his displays at Euro 2024.

Foden’s European Championship campaign for England did not start in ideal fashion — with John Barnes claiming that unless Gareth Southgate’s side play like City, he will struggle at international level.

However, David Moyes defended the 24-year-old, stating that his display during the Three Lions’ 1-0 win against Serbia was merely a rare off night for a top player like him.

Phil Foden makes big Euro 2024 prediction about Cole Palmer

England will be hoping to go all the way in Germany, despite an unconvincing start to the campaign on Sunday.

Gareth Southgate’s side remain the favourites to finish in first place in Group C — despite Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia all being quality sides.

Speaking to England’s in-house media, Foden initially revealed that he has been spending a lot of time with Cole Palmer.

“Me and Cole [Palmer] have been hanging out quite a lot on camp. We’ve been going to the sauna and steam [room], playing a bit of paddle. Someone I know really well from my club. He’s a close friend.”

Foden went on to claim that Palmer could have a big impact with his showings for England at Euro 2024.

“I’ve been training with them for many years at City. I know his talent and how good he is and he can only get better.”

“He’s someone that I can see can have a big effect on the tournament when he gets his opportunity so, looking forward to it.”

Phil Foden should view Cole Palmer as competition

Foden would wish for Palmer to perform at the European Championship, being a close friend of his and a fellow England player.

However, the Chelsea attacker should also be viewed by Manchester City’s number 47 as competition.

Considering Foden is playing as a wide playmaker for England, Palmer could well be brought on by Southgate to replace him in a game.

The former Manchester City technician is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well as out wide, just like the six-time Premier League winner.

As a result, Foden’s intention should be to perform to the best of his capabilities in the forthcoming games to ensure that if Palmer is brought on as a substitute in a match, it is for the team’s other attackers.

Otherwise, it is not out of the question that the 22-year-old takes his place in the England team.
