Manchester City kept their unbeaten streak going on Wednesday night by beating Sparta Prague 5-0 in the Champions League.
City’s third league-phase match of the Champions League saw them secure a comfortable victory against Sparta at the Etihad Stadium.
Goals from Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, John Stones and Matheus Nunes gave Pep Guardiola’s side their second European victory of the season following a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan and a 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava.
With Haaland bagging a brace on the night, his first goal was particularly eye-catching.
Specifically, the striker met the end of a cross from Savinho with a mid-air backheel that he managed to guide into the back of the net without looking.
At the end of the game, another one of City’s midweek goalscorers shared some details on what he told the Norwegian about his acrobatic effort.

Phil Foden reveals what he said to Erling Haaland after Man City wonder goal
In a post-match interview shared on the TNT Sports YouTube channel, Foden gave this response when asked to sum up Haaland’s mid-air backheel goal which doubled City’s lead in the 58th minute.
He said: “I just spoke to him, I said, ‘Mate if I tried to do that I’d pull my groin.’ I don’t know how he does it. It’s just how long his legs are. He’s a freak. He has this talent that no one else can do.”
Matheus Nunes was left ‘speechless’ by Haaland’s goal
Foden wasn’t the only City player to share his astonishment at the 24-year-old’s stunning strike, as Matheus Nunes gave this verdict about Haaland’s goal against Sparta after the game.
He said: “It was amazing. I was speechless after he shot. When he scored against [Borussia] Dortmund I was watching on TV, and to see this live it was amazing.”
Not only did the Norwegian bag another brace, but Haaland (44) also overtook Neymar (43) for the number of Champions League goals he’s scored.
The centre-forward had 19 touches against Sparta but was able to rack up six attempts at goal in total, five of which were on target.
Even though Foden is no slouch and can be considered to be an athletic player, the fact that he doesn’t feel he’d have been able to pull off a finish like the one Haaland made to score his first goal of the match shows just how much of a special physical specimen and goalscorer he is.
