Manchester City secured their second Champions League win of the season on Wednesday night with a convincing 5-0 victory over Sparta Prague.
Their previous European outing saw City beat Slovan Bratislava 4-0 away from home following on from their 0-0 draw against Inter Milan.
Back at the Etihad Stadium, goals from Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Matheus Nunes and John Stones secured their latest victory against Sparta to keep City’s unbeaten record intact.
Once this latest midweek match had ended, one of the goalscorers from Pep Guardiola’s side could not help but share his astonishment at one thing that took place during the game.
- Who is Matheus Nunes? Get to know the midfielder

Matheus Nunes stunned by Erling Haaland’s acrobatic finish
Speaking to TNT Sports after the final whistle, Nunes gave this assessment when asked about Haaland’s acrobatic goal to put City 2-0 up.
He said: “It was amazing. I was speechless after he shot. When he scored against [Borussia] Dortmund I was watching on TV, and to see this live it was amazing.”
Haaland has been hailed for his goalscoring prowess previously
Haaland is no stranger when it comes to scoring outrageous goals, as his mid-air strike against Dortmund back in the 2022/23 season, which Nunes mentioned, was just as extravagant as his recent one against Sparta.
The Norway international is also no stranger to having pundits share their thoughts on him and what he’s capable of producing on the pitch.
In fact, earlier this season, Ian Wright backed Haaland to become the first player to score six goals in one league match at some point in the future.
With 81 minutes under his belt against Sparta, Haaland had 19 touches of the ball in total and was able to register six attempts at goal in total, five of which were on target.
Having now added two more goals to his tally for the campaign, the striker has further showcased how much of a key figure he is in City’s squad.
Now that Nunes has expressed how amazed he was with Haaland’s mid-air backheel goal to double City’s lead against Sparta, this highlights how much of a special striker he is and how he’s able to put the ball in the back of the net in unique ways.
