Player Man City sold for £8.4m now raves over Pep Guardiola, despite not playing much under him

A player Manchester City recently sold has raved over Pep Guardiola, insisting he is the best coach in the world.

Guardiola is about to embark on his ninth season at City – and it’s possible it could be his last.

The Spaniard’s contract expires next summer. Fans are hoping that he will agree to fresh terms and extend his stay. But there is some concern that he may finally decide to call it a day.

But Pep did say a few days ago that he isn’t ruling out extending his contract.

It is expected that the manager will inform City of his decision at some point during the 2024/25 season.

For many, there is no football manager better than Pep. He is also the greatest of all time for a lot of people.

Sergio Gomez certainly feels no one comes close to Pep, as he raved about his former manager in a new interview.

Sergio Gomez left City earlier this summer.

He joined Spanish club Real Sociedad for around £8.4 million, and it was a move that didn’t come as too much of a surprise.

Sociedad had tacked him for some time, and Gomez had never broken into the City starting XI during his two seasons at the club.

Gomez made just 38 appearances for City, with most of those coming as a substitute. Ultimately, he couldn’t quite convince Pep that he should have been a regular starter.

But despite his relative lack of minutes, Gomez has no ill feeling towards Pep. In fact, he has nothing but respect, for a man he believes is the best of the best.

He told Mundo Deportivo: “The first few days it’s special to be trained (by Pep).

“Then when you have many talks with him you take it more naturally.

“It has been a privilege to share these two seasons with him. After all the successes we’ve had, being coached by the best coach in the world is incredible.”

Gomez quotes about Pep are telling

Gomez is not the first to talk about Pep like this and he likely won’t be the last.

But it’s interesting to hear this verdict from a player who didn’t really play all that much during his two years under Pep at City.

Clearly, he had a good relationship with Pep even though he didn’t play as much as he’d have liked.

Hopefully, Gomes can now thrive at his new club Real Sociedad, and put into practice all the things he learned working under £378,000-a-week tactician Pep.

Ideally, he’ll really shine, and City will get to take advantage of their 30% sell-on clause which they negotiated when selling him.
