Player Manchester City sold in 2024 could join Manchester United for £30m

Manchester City have allowed a number of talented players to leave the Etihad Stadium in recent years.

Pep Guardiola oversaw the sales of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid and Joao Cancelo to Al Hilal last summer – while Kyle Walker was also given permission to join AC Milan in January.

Prior to these departures, Manchester City also let Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer leave the Etihad Stadium along with Aymeric Laporte.

Now – according to Steve Kay – one of these names could return to Manchester, but to join Manchester United rather than the Citizens.

Manchester United could sign Joao Cancelo

Speaking on his YouTube channel – KS1 TV – the respected journalist claimed that Manchester United have told Ruben Amorim the Portugal international could arrive at Old Trafford.

Kay said: “This is one that came to my attention this morning. This was mentioned to someone I’m very close with during the post-match press conference alongside other journalists at Tottenham on Sunday.

“Manchester United have made Amorim aware there’s a chance Cancelo could come to United, and they’ve basically left it in the hands of the manager.

“As soon as I heard that I started putting together the links, where did the source come from, he’s Portuguese, the manager, but then it’s Man City, but he left on bad terms. All of a sudden things started slipping into place. Yes, I have to trust my sources, there’s a possibility, there is a chance. I would say about £30m I would have thought.

“My thing was, would he go after being at City to United? But I’ve spoken to a few people today about it and Cancelo has that temperament where he doesn’t give a damn, he won’t give a damn about that, he doesn’t like the hierarchy at City.”

Cancelo – who fell out with Guardiola – has scored two goals and provided ten assists in 27 appearances for Al Hilal following his £21.2m move to Saudi Arabia.

Players who have appeared for both Manchester City and Manchester United

If Cancelo – who spent time on loan at Barcelona – does link up with Amorim at Old Trafford, he would join an exclusive list of players to appear for both Manchester clubs.

As you can see, the Portuguese defender would become the 16th player to represent both the Citizens and the Red Devils, should the 30-year-old choose to swap the Saudi Pro League for the Premier League.
