Kaoru Mitoma has now agreed a new contract at Brighton – after Manchester City expressed interest over the summer.
That is according to London World.
So, what has been said about Manchester City and Kaoru Mitoma? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to the Daily Star – Pep Guardiola wanted the Japan international to replace Mahrez.
The Algeria international left the Etihad Stadium to join Al Ahli in a £30m deal back in July.
Mitoma worked his way onto Guardiola’s radar following a superb 2022/23 campaign, scoring ten goals while also providing eight assists in 41 appearances as Brighton qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
Now – however – the Brighton No.22 has committed himself to the Seagulls.

London World believe Mitoma has agreed a new five-year contract worth £80,000-a-week at the Amex Stadium, and it is expected to be announced by Brighton within the next 24 hours.
So far this season, the 26-year-old has scored three goals and provided three assists in seven Premier League appearances.
Manchester City will be just fine without Kaoru Mitoma
While it would have been nice to see Mitoma at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City will be just fine without the Japanese forward.
Guardiola already has the likes of Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku to play on the flanks, while Oscar Bobb has also broken into the first-team setup.

A move for Mitoma could – of course – still happen in 2024 if any of these forwards were to leave Manchester City.
Silva is one player who could depart – according to le10sport in France, the Portugal international would like to try a new challenge, with PSG keen on his services.
However, a deal for Mitoma would now cost much more that it would have in the summer after the electric winger committed the next five years of his career to Brighton.
