West Ham No.9 Michail Antonio has now claimed that Pep Guardiola did something unusual as Manchester City overcame Newcastle on Saturday.

The 33-year-old made the comments when speaking on The Players Channel podcast.

So, what did Michail Antonio say about Pep Guardiola? Let’s take a look…

What Guardiola did at the end of 3-2 Manchester City win

Well, the 52-year-old could be seen wildly jumping for joy after Oscar Bobb sealed all three points for Manchester City in the 91st minute on Saturday, following an outstanding pass from Kevin De Bruyne.

However, Antonio felt it was an odd reaction from the Spaniard.

The Jamaica international simply said: “It was out of character for him.”

You can understand why Guardiola celebrated as he did.

Manchester City are already two points behind Liverpool even after beating Newcastle, so it was imperative that the Citizens picked up all three points on Tyneside.

It was not just any goal either.

The 91st minute winner was Bobb’s first Premier League goal for Manchester City, while it also came thanks to De Bruyne’s first Premier League assist of the campaign.

It felt like a pivotal moment in Manchester City’s 2023/24 campaign, which has so far only yielded 13 wins from a possible 20 in the Premier League as things went slightly array over the festive period.

Therefore, Guardiola – who was also bizarrely criticised by Richard Keys – had so many reasons to celebrate the goal, let alone the fact it secured all three points.

Manchester City might be back

We don’t want to jinx anything, although it is hard to see anything other than Manchester City now embarking on a trademark run of excellent form in the Premier League.

The Citizens face Burnley, Brentford and Everton in their next three Premier League outings, before a rescheduled clash against the Bees is sandwiched between encounters with a weak Chelsea side and Bournemouth.

In truth, we would not be surprised if Manchester City hoovered up 18 points from these six games, having embarked on a stunning 12-game winning run last term to shove Arsenal aside in the title race.
