‘Playing really well’: Peter Schmeichel impressed with player Manchester City sold for £30m

One of the players Manchester City have sold in recent times is Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Peter Schmeichel has noted that he is playing very well at Arsenal.

Peter Schmeichel made the observation about Oleksandr Zinchenko while watching the Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in North London on Sunday.

Arsenal beat defending champions City 1-0.

Gabriel Martinelli scored the only goal of the match in the 86th minute.

It was a deflected effort.

Zinchenko started for Arsenal.

The 26-year-old Ukraine international was deployed at left-back.

Former City goalkeeper Schmeichel said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Again, Pep wants four centre-halves to play the back four.

“That’s his new thing and it’s interesting.

“So Zinchenko came here and he is playing really well, and Jesus came too.”

My View: Manchester City do not regret selling Oleksandr Zinchenko

In my opinion, Manchester City should not regret selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal in the summer of 2022.

City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season, received an initial £30 million in transfer fees for Zinchenko (Sky Sport).

Yes, Zinchenko is doing well at Arsenal now and he could get better – after all, he is just 26 now – but he was not exactly world class during his time at City.

If City manager Pep Guardiola was really desperate to keep Zinchenko, then he would have convinced him to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Zinchenko was essentially a squad player at City.

In 2021-22, the Ukraine international made 10 starts in the Premier League and five starts in the UEFA Champions League.

In 2020-21, Zinchenko made 15 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League and six starts and three substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
