Tony Cascarino has said that in his opinion, Kevin De Bruyne “has the edge” over Martin Odegaard.
The pundit touched on how De Bruyne could play a vital role in Manchester City winning the Premier League title this season while telling the Times.
In August, Danny Murphy claimed that the Belgian international is miles better than the Arsenal talisman.
Tony Cascarino says Kevin De Bruyne “has the edge” over Martin Odegaard
Considering the pair are their respective teams’ No.10’s, it is natural that they are pitted against each other by fans and pundits alike.
Gary Neville believes Pep Guardiola would jump at the chance to manage the Norwegian captain.
Tony Cascarino, who believes Manchester City will defend their Premier League crown also went on to claim that Kevin De Bruyne is a better midfielder than Martin Odegaard.

“Manchester City remain my firm favourites. At the moment they are the worst version of themselves but that will not continue for long, and despite that poor run of form they are only five points behind the leaders, Arsenal”, he told the Times.
Cascarino added, “City are more than capable of bridging that gap and they have shown an ability to extend themselves in recent years, particularly in the February-March period, which is also when Kevin De Bruyne is expected to return.”
“Some may point to the recent form of Martin Odegaard as a reason Arsenal are about to leave City behind. He’s a wonderful player who can inspire those around him but in a shoot-out between him and De Bruyne, the City midfielder has the edge.”
Kevin De Bruyne remains the benchmark for attacking midfielders
It is likely that many would not disagree with Tony Cascarino regarding Kevin De Bruyne having the edge over Martin Odegaard.
Last season, De Bruyne had 10 goals and 31 assists to his name across all competitions.
In the same campaign, the 32-year-old was one of City’s protagonists as they went on to win the treble in June.
Martin Odegaard, on the other hand, registered 15 goals and eight assists in all competitions.
Of course, debates between players are not merely settled by taking a peek at their respective statistics.
However, Kevin De Bruyne is the gold standard for attacking midfielders in the world and arguably his generation.
The former VFL Wolfsburg maestro’s longevity at the elite level is second to none as he continues to set the bar for the rest.
Not just Martin Odegaard but any No.10 in Europe that is compared to Kevin De Bruyne cannot even be mentioned in the same breath until they reach the same heights as him.
