Pep Guardiola has seen many players leave Manchester City during his tenure at the club.

Having been at the Etihad Stadium since 2016, the 53-year-old has seen the club conclude numerous deals to see certain players join other clubs either as free agents or for significant transfer fees.

Some notable City exits over recent years include Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling joining Chelsea and Gabriel Jesus making a move to Arsenal, with the Manchester club picking up a large amount of cash for each player.

In this latest summer transfer window, another key figure from Guardiola’s squad has been linked with a big-money move away from City.

For this particular saga, one pundit has now claimed that the City boss will be working hard behind the scenes to keep hold of the player.

Pundit claims Pep Guardiola would be desperate to see Julian Alvarez stay at Man City

Following a recent claim from Fabrizio Romano that Atletico Madrid are looking to secure a deal worth over €75m (£64m) for Julian Alvarez, Don Hutchison had this to say bout how Guardiola could be feeling about the Argentine’s potential exit in a video shared on the ESPN FC YouTube channel.

He said: “Pep will think I’ve got the perfect player in Julian Alvarez because if he sells him he’s then going to try and convince someone to sit on the bench and be a number two and a backup, so I would imagine behind the scenes Guardiola will be doing everything to try and keep him.”

Alvarez is a useful player for City

Back in the 2022 January transfer window City secured a deal for Alvarez worth £14m from River Plate before he eventually joined in the following summer.

With two years under his belt as a City player, the 24-year-old has found the back of the net 36 times and supplied 18 assists in 103 appearances across all competitions.

Having shown how capable he is of delivering goal contributions and being able to play in different positions across the pitch, it’s clear that Alvarez has been a useful figure for the Citizens.

It also shows why Hutchison thinks Guardiola would have been trying to convince the striker to stay at the club.
