Pundit questions whether £54m Man City player can be effective this season

Manchester City will once again be setting out to regain their Premier League title in the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

Having become the first side to win four league trophies in a row at the end of their previous season, the Blues will undoubtedly be aiming to get their hands on another title and make even more history.

Throughout the current summer transfer window, City have made several changes to their squad including seeing Savinho arrive from Troyes and seeing Julian Alvarez and Sergio Gomez walk away from the Etihad Stadium.

With the new campaign just a few days away from kicking off, a pundit has shared his doubts about one player currently in Pep Guardiola’s ranks and his effectiveness in the team.

Pundit questions Kevin De Bruyne’s effectiveness for Man City

On the subject of how City could fare in the upcoming Premier League campaign, Robbie Mustoe had this to say in a recent edition of The 2 Robbies about which one individual player he thinks could be a concern for the Blues.

He said: “Kevin De Bruyne is going to be a little older. He’s such a key player, there’s many times that we’ve pointed out the amount of combinations, amount of assists he manages to [give] Erling Haaland.

“Can he get back to his very best or is he a little less effective in this [team], that’s one concern.”

De Bruyne will be a key player for City

Looking back over the previous Premier League campaign, De Bruyne missed a lot of it through injury.

Despite that, the 33-year-old, who City paid £54m to sign back in 2015, still scored four goals and delivered 10 assists in 18 Premier League games.

This isn’t the first time the Belgian has been questioned ahead of the new season, as Alan Brazil said earlier this month that he has doubts over how well De Bruyne could perform this season.

In our view, the only concern anyone should have about the midfielder is with his fitness rather than his ability.
