Pundit says he’s heard something truly ‘ridiculous’ about Pep Guardiola recently

Manchester City have had an up-and-down start to the Premier League season.

Indeed, the Cityzens have won two and lost two of their opening four games in the league.

This inconsistent level of form comes after what was a tough season last time around too.

Amid these results, some interesting claims have been made about Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.

Indeed, last week, The Telegraph made a comparison between Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger, claiming that Guardiola may be in danger of staying at Man City for too long in the same way the Frenchman did at Arsenal.

However, speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Scott Minto has hit back at these comparisons.

Scott Minto says Pep Guardiola/Arsene Wenger comparisons are ‘ridiculous’

Minto shared his verdict on the recent discourse around Guardiola.

The pundit says it’s ridiculous to compare Guardiola to a latter-stage Arsene Wenger, and he’s absolutely right.

Guardiola is one of the best in the world, and while he’s gone 12 months without a trophy, this is hardly a malaise or a terrible era for City.

“Yeah, I mean, look, with the greatest respect, again, you know, you can’t judge, really, can you, a Manchester City team, as whether they’re back. And it just goes to show the world we live in right now. You know, after Wolves, they’re going to be Premier League Champions, then back to back defeats, Pep has gone,” Minto said.

“Then a ridiculous comparison to staying too long in the Premier League as Arsene Wenger.”

How long has Pep Guardiola been at Manchester City?

Minto says this is a ridiculous comparison, and he’s absolutely right.

Indeed, we’re a long way away from being in Wenger territory with Guardiola at City, as the numbers show.

Guardiola has only been at City for nine years, and his longest Etihad trophy drought is literally only one season.

Meanwhile Wenger was at Arsenal for over 20 years, and at one point, he went almost a decade without a trophy.

If we get to 2030 and City haven’t won anything else and Guardiola is still the manager, perhaps this conversation can be revisited, but, for now, we’re a long way off any concrete complaints about Guardiola as a manager.
