Pundit says Man City absolutely shouldn’t sign £102m Real Madrid player now

Manchester City have been known to shell out significant transfer fees to sign certain players should an opportunity to do so present itself.

For example, previous summer transfer windows have seen City sign the likes of Jack Grealish, Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias for hefty sums of money.

The Blues have also sold players for similarly considerable fees such as Leroy Sane, Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling.

Now that the Manchester club could be about to cash in on another big name in the squad, a pundit has been discussing the possibility of City then looking to land a deal for one of Europe’s star players before the summer transfer window closes.

Don Hutchison dismisses potential Man City transfer move for Rodrygo

Following recent reports claiming that Atletico Madrid have secured a deal worth €95m to sign Julian Alvarez, Don Hutchison had this to say in a recent ESPN FC video when asked if City should use the money for Alvarez to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium previously.

He said: “No, they’ve got enough wide players. Again, it doesn’t really make sense.

“City have got Oscar Bobb, they’ve got [Jack] Grealish, they’ve got [Jeremy] Doku, they’ve got Bernardo Silva who can play wide.

“They need to find a number nine.”

Should City use the Alvarez money to sign Rodrygo?

Back in May, it was reported by Marca that City and Guardiola are interested in signing the Brazilian, who is valued by Real Madrid at €120m (£102m) according to Mundo Deportivo (via Forbes).

However, Fabrizio Romano then claimed that Rodrygo has no interest in leaving the Spanish club this summer.

In our view, even though City could be about to get a big cash injection through the reported sale of Alvarez, we agree with Hutchison that a possible move for Rodrygo would be unnecessary due to the number of attacking options the Citizens already have at their disposal.
